Genevieve "Genny" T. (Fessler) McGraw passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 13, 2020, with her family by her side. Genny was born on April 1, 1930 in Wien, MO to Anton and Anna (Palms) Fessler. She graduated from Bucklin High School in Bucklin, MO. After high school, she moved to Kansas City, MO and worked for Black Sivalls & Bryson and AT&T before marrying Donald McGraw on September 5, 1959 at St. Mary’s of the Angels Catholic Church in Wien, MO.

After marrying Don, they settled in Raytown, MO and had two daughters, Mary and Theresa. They were very active members of St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church. Genny spent countless hours volunteering at church and the school, even serving as the school librarian for many years.

Genny was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt and friend. She was known for her love of family and friends, which she demonstrated by cooking, baking and keeping track of everyone’s favorite meals and desserts. Her faith was very important to her and she spent time in daily prayer, praying for others and saying rosaries.

Genny and Don moved to Lee’s Summit, MO in 1994 and later became active members of Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church. Genny was a member of the St. Joseph’s Guild and enjoyed volunteering for funeral dinners, the Tuesday Donut Group, and Holy Hour. Genny and Don were also longtime volunteers with One Good Meal. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and was happiest spending time visiting with her family and friends, especially her beloved granddaughter, Hannah.

Genny is proceeded in death by her parents, six brothers, two sisters, and her devoted husband Don (who passed away on January 22, 2016). She is survived by her daughters, Mary McGraw of Leawood, KS and Theresa (Kevin) Tarwater and granddaughter Hannah Tarwater, all of Lee’s Summit, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.

Genny’s family would like to thank Home Instead of Lee’s Summit, Visiting Nurse’s Association (VNA) Home Health/Hospice of Kansas City and her beloved neighbors in Cedar Creek Village. Your TLC for mom (and us) will never be forgotten.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions and at mom’s request, her funeral service will be a private family gathering but will be live streamed for all to join. I was so sorry to hear of Genevieve's passing. I have fond memories of my Uncle Tone telling my mother Sophia Poeschl about Genevieve and Sister Mary Ann. May they both rest in peace.

I can not even remember when I met Genny. I have been friends to Theresa, Kevin, Hannah for over 24 years and I had the blessing to meet Genny. Genny , was not someone I got to see often, but it never failed when I did, she made me smile, she left me feeling my life was just a bit better from the time with her, and her humor and upbeat personality and heart shined. Genny, was a rare spirit, we don't meet many people like her in our lives, so when we do, we know have . I am so sadden by her passing but I pray her family, all find comfort in her spirit, laughter and at times tears in her memories and strength through God and friends. I will miss you Genny and I am always here for you Theresa, Kevin, Hannah, Mary.

To the family we are so sorry for your loss. So many great memories from Saint Bernadette's about Mrs. McGraw. What a generous and wonderful human being. I can almost see the subtle rolling of her eyes when she reunited with Don and he cracked one of his jokes. Once again they are happy together.

My morning walk was dedicated to Aunt Genny today, remembering all the times we spent together. Sharing her unbeatable homemade cookies, cakes and pies. Sharing family stories over and over and still laughing or crying no matter how many times they were repeated. She made each one of her nieces and nephews feel like they were her favorite because she always remembered something special about us.
She was generous and loving and will be missed.

We met Genny & Don through Our Lady of the Presentation Parish and worked with them on the funeral lunches for about fifteen years. Don was always fun and was the coffee maker and Genny helped with everything else, in recent years she served up the meatballs.
Genny was a beautiful , sweet , caring lady and her lovely smile and presence will be missed.
Our sympathy to all her family.

Aunt Genny was such a special person. She did everything out of love for her family and friends! As a child, I remember going to her wedding when she married my Uncle Don. She took us to her family farm and showed us around. She always had the special things we liked when we would go visit her and Uncle Don and our cousins. She never failed to have my peanut butter cookies on hand. Aunt Genny was a dear, sweet aunt and will be missed very, very much! She was well loved by all of us. ❤️
