

George William Beres, Major USAF Retired, 84, of Kansas City, MO passed away September 1, 2013. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church, 8941 James A Reed Rd Kansas City, MO, on Friday September 6th at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be held at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Rd, Kansas City, MO on Thursday September 5th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church or the Alzheimer’s Association, 3846 West 75th St., Prairie Village, KS 66208.
George was born on September 9, 1928 in Pittsburgh, PA to George and Eleanor (Studnicki) Beres. Following graduation from Taylor-Allderdice High School in 1946, George joined the Army and completed a tour of duty in Japan and was honorably discharged in 1948. George graduated from Duquesne University in 1952 with a BA in Political Science and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force. His 20 years of service included tours of duty in Turkey and Vietnam. In 1953 George married Lois Steimer and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. After retiring, George received a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from UMKC and worked for the City of KCMO and the Department of Health and Human Services.
George was a member of St. Regis Church, the American Legion, the Air Force Association, and NARFE. He was proud to complete the New York Times crossword puzzle in ink. He loved the arts, listening to music, attending concerts, and the Opera.
George is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Lois; daughters, Nancy (Douglas) Griffin, and Vicki (Kevin) Hornick, grandchildren; Jacob Horsley, Elizabeth Horsley Boyle, Amanda Hornick, Shawn Hornick; step- grandchildren; Matthew, Daniel, and Bryan Griffin; three sisters Nancy Toomey, Mary Helen Garvey, and Doris Ayoob; brother and sister-in-law Tom and Helen Steimer; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the Villages at Jackson Creek, the nursing staff at Center Point Medical Center, Kingswood Manor, and Kansas City Hospice for all of their wonderful care.
