

George H. Jones, 88, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away October 14, 2011. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1923, the son of Dr. George Humphrey and Mary Ruby (Marrs) Jones. He was educated in the Kansas City public schools, graduating from Paseo High School and attended the University of Missouri at Kansas City and the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. Following service in the Army Air Corps during World War II, he was an officer on the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department and operated an electrical contracting business until recalled to active duty in the Army during the Korean War. He returned to the Police Department briefly until joining Automatic Temperature Control Company. Several years later he established a manufacturer’s agency and equipment distribution business handling water purification and wastewater treatment equipment. This business was later sold. He continued in the sales engineering and design field until December 1967. He was employed by Research Medical Center from January 1968 until his retirement in December 1989 as Director of Plant Operations and Telecommunications. He then established a healthcare facilities consulting firm, Technical Service Associates which was operated until his retirement in 2000. His professional accomplishments were recognized by being named a Fellow of both the American Society of Healthcare Engineering and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, (one of two persons to hold this dual distinction), Who’s Who in Science and Engineering and Who’s Who in America. Mr. Jones was an elder in the Presbyterian Church and a member of the Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church. He was formerly a member of the Metropolitan Emergency Planning Committee, Kansas City Area Hospital Engineers, American Society for Healthcare Engineering and the Healthcare Engineering and Management Systems Society. He was a volunteer for the Emergency and Disaster Services department of the Salvation Army. He was an Eagle Scout, Sachem of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and Past Master Councillor of the Order of DeMolay, Life member of Alpha Phi Omega, The American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by his wife of nearly 68 years, Peggy Thompson Jones of the home, children Ken Jones and wife, Kathie of Arlington, Texas, Dan Jones and wife, Cheryl of Cary, North Carolina, Kathleen Smith of Shawnee, Kansas, Carol Johnson of Overland Park, Kansas, Janet Fitts and husband Tom of Pacific, Missouri, eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm, Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Mt. Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on October 20, 2011 at the Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nall Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas 66207.
