

George Joseph (Teak) La Plante, 85, of Lee's Summit, MO passed away February 12, 2012 at the Kansas City Hospice House surrounded by his children. George was born February 28,1926 in Damar, KS and moved to Kansas City in 1932. He was the youngest of 11 children born to Thomas and Georgia M. La Plante. He was a Navy Veteran serving in the South Pacific during WWII. Upon returning to the area George met and married his wife of nearly 61 years. He worked for Lake City Army Ammunition for 39 years retiring in 1991. George was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; sons, Thomas and Joseph; brothers, Edmund, Gilbert, Eugene, Oliver and Victor; sisters, Georgina LaPlante, Delphine Saindon, Evena Roberts and Evon O'Connell. He is survived by his children, Renee (Steve) Cable, Lee's Summit, MO; Deborah (Jerry) Amaro, Overland Park, KS; Christine (Jim) Ebberts, Lee's Summit, MO; Gregory (Tillie) LaPlante, Bonner Springs, KS; and Mary (David) Laird, Raytown, MO 14 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and his sister Olive Kasper, Raytown, MO. George was not just a devoted husband, father and grandfather, he just loved people. He so enjoyed his volunteer work at The Villages of Jackson Creek and St. Luke's Hospital and the time spent with his neighbors and his friends at the Gambor Center. All who knew him will miss his easy going spirit and loving ways. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, February 16, 2012, 11:00 am, at St. Mark's Church in Independence, MO. Burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, February 15th with a prayer service beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Kansas City Hospice.
