George was born January 16, 1932, in Independence, Missouri, to Henry and Mae (Whiting) Lund. George graduated from the University of Kansas in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture. He married Margaret Jann Duchossois on September 17, 1955.
George entered the United States Air Force and was a pilot, retiring in 1960 when he returned to practice architecture.
George and Jann had three children: Jennifer Baskind (Jonathan Baskind), Kevin Lund (Gilma Lund), and Stephanie Shepard (Sean Shepard).
George’s grandchildren are Thomas Baskind, Marissa Baskind, Sasha Lund, Chelsea Lund, William Shepard, Ashley Shepard, and Amanda Shepard. George is also survived by his great-granddaughter, Lilly Baskind.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jann Duchossois Lund, and his daughter, Stephanie Shepard.
George was the senior principal of the firm of Lund and Balderson, AIA Architects. George served as past chairman of the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce, was on the Overland Park Planning Commission and Johnson County Planning Commission and was a member of the Johnson County Cosmopolitan Service Club.
George enjoyed playing tennis, golf, skiing in Colorado, playing bridge, and attending art class with friends at Tallgrass Creek Retirement Community.
A Memorial Service will be held at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131 on October 9, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, followed by Committal Service with Full Military Honors at the same location on October 9, 2026 at 3:00 pm.
