George Van Compernolle passed away April 6, 2026, at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, William Julius Van Compernolle and Regina Claus; two brothers, William J. Van Compernolle and Richard Van Compernolle; and one son, Craig Allen Van Compernolle.
George elected early retirement after 35 years from Panhandle Eastern Pipeline as Supervising Engineer, Project Management and Administration in Houston, Texas. While in Kansas City he served as Facilities Manager of their office complex. After retirement, George and his wife, Elaine, started Vanco Home Inspection Service reporting on mechanical, structural, and environmental issues associated with homes and small businesses.
He was very active in the De La Salle Alumni Association where he graduated from the military school as a Lt. Col. in 1955. He served on the Board of Directors and was editor and co-editor of the alumni newsletter. George and Elaine spent the last 15 years snow birding in Surprise, Arizona, where he spent many happy hours at the sawmill turning out gavels, baseball bats, and even urns.
Survived by his wife of 54 years, Elaine; two sons, Scott Michael Van Compernolle, Mark Joseph Van Compernolle of Baton Rouge, LA; one daughter, Tamara Jo Smith (Gregg) of Lee Summit; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; also many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and dear friends he has met over his lifetime.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
