George Oakley Wittwer, 74 of Kansas City, MO, died Friday, December 24, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital on the Plaza. He was surrounded by his loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 am Friday, January 7, at Redemptorist Fathers Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 3333 Broadway, Kansas City, MO. Burial will be Saturday, January 8 in Mt. Olivet Cemetery Legacy Garden. Visitation will be Thursday, January 06 from 6-8 pm at McGilley Midtown Chapel, where the rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm. George was born September 6, 1947 in Seattle, WA to John and Lucile (Lewer) Wittwer. He was a graduate of Westport High School, Class of 1966. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was awarded: Vietnam Service Medal with Five Bronze Star and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. George was a proud Veteran, he belonged to the VFW. He resided in the Westport area for over 40 years where he assisted as security for the Volker Neighborhood Association, planning and assisting block parties, and church events. George enjoyed volunteering many hours to the Redemptorist Church and Our Lady of the Angels School. He was a member of the Redemptorist Church. Many years were involved with participating and building floats for the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. He was the first to build an animated float and won the Grand twice as well as many other placements. He was a concrete contractor in Kansas City, Missouri. George operated a successful contracting business in the Kansas City area for over 40 years. He worked primarily in the storage caves in the area which were carved into the limestone hills near the beltline interstate. His hobbies included reading, swimming, fishing, scuba diving, Chiefs and Royals fan, movies, tinkering with building "anything", or a cold beer with the guys.
George was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, the former Lori Owen; his two daughters, Catie and Lucy; Mother-in-Law, Patricia Hartl (Del City, OK); Father-in-Law, Richard Owen Sr, & Ruby (Carrollton, OH); five Aunt's, Catherine Lewer (Oak Grove, MO); Georgia Devening (Midwest City, OK), Rita Moore & Steve (Choctaw, OK); Bobbie Faircloth (Albany, GA), Betty Gardner & Les (Midwest City, OK), an Uncle, Kenny Owen & Dottie (Midwest City, OK); two sisters, Candy Davis (Oak Grove, MO), Penny MacKay (Largo, FL); two brother-in-law's, Richard Owen Jr. & Leslye (Shawnee, OK), Jeff Owen I & Mischa (Oklahoma City, OK); sister-in-law, Tricia Wyatt & Ben (Midwest City, OK); nine nieces, Tiffany Armstrong & Mark (Upstate New York), Sheri Gifford &Ted (Lee's Summit, MO), Julie Dempsey & Tom (Mesa, AZ) Sarah McAllister & Ryan (Shawnee, OK), Brittney Owen (Shawnee, OK), Christine Tappe & Brian (Shawnee, OK), Jordan Sims & Jordan (San Antonio, TX), Cecelia Wyatt (MIdwest City, OK), Amelia Wyatt (Midwest City, OK) and five nephews, John Bowman (Oak Grove, MO), Doug Wilmoth & Danielle (Milton, FL), Jeffrey Owen II (Oklahoma City, OK), Jacob Owen (MIdwest City,OK), Cameron Gettle (Midwest City, OK); Many loving cousins and several great-nieces and great-nephews. George loved being a father to his two daughters. He was a devoted and loyal husband. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
