Gerald Francis Venable

Jerry was born February 6, 1930 in Erie, PA to Ralph and Stella Venable. After attending Bowling Green University in Ohio, he enlisted in the Army as paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne, and served as a member of the MP.

He married Nancy June Restifo, also from Erie, PA on November 5, 1955. They recently celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary.

Jerry and Nancy started their family in Cleveland, OH, where he began a distinguished career in the advertising industry. They later relocated the family to Edina, MN and eventually to Kansas City where he was President of Barickman Advertising. Jerry was a member of YPO, OPO, and Indian Hills Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf and gin rummy.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Rose Marie, and his brother Tom. He is survived by his wife Nancy, brother Richard “Dik” of Lakeland, FL, and children Kathi (Mike, deceased) Welch, Leslie (Jay) Tomlinson of Kansas City, Tricia Barnes of Randolph, NJ, and Michael of Overland Park, KS, grandchildren Emily Welch, Zack (Hannah) Tomlinson, Alex Tomlinson, Jack and Sam Venable, Hailey and Ashley Barnes, and his beloved dog, Cleo.

Services will be held on Thursday, February 23rd, with visitation from 3:00-4:30pm followed by a memorial service at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. Kansas City, MO 64131. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Wayside Waifs or Veterans Community Project. The family would like to thank the staff at Garden Terrace Overland Park, especially the staff of the Forsythia Boulevard unit.
