A Memorial Service will be held in Gerry’s honor at 11:00 AM, with a Visitation starting at 10:00 AM, on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at the McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Road, Kansas City, MO 64119. Following the Memorial Service, Gerry’s family would like to invite guests to stay and visit at the Funeral Home.
Gerry will be laid to rest in a private ceremony in Platte City Cemetery, Platte City, MO.
Gerry was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Marlen “Mike” and Betty (Strutt) Marshall on November 11, 1941. He graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1960. He went to William Jewell College and transferred to Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington, following a football coach who he played for and admired. Gerry went on to obtain his bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from Whitworth.
He married Sandra Ann (Humphrey) on August 31, 1963, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They shared 22 years together until her passing. They raised three children in southern California, until moving to Smithville, Missouri in 1983 to be closer to family. He married Mary Margaret (Whitney) on December 2, 1989, in Kansas City, Missouri. They shared 30 years together until her passing.
Gerry worked for Hallmark Cards after graduating college and in 1970 he started in the swimming pool industry. In 1979 he bought a retail store, Blu-Bell Pools, and developed a service company in Orange, California. Upon selling his store and service company in 1985 he went to work for BioLab, a pool chemical manufacturer. In 1993 he started Marshall’s Pool Service, where he worked until 2021. Gerry volunteered his time with the local pool industry trade organization, APSP. He was an entrepreneur, starting numerous businesses, Crown Royal Enterprises being one. He very much loved being a member of the Church of Kansas City. He also was involved with Young Life throughout his lifetime.
Gerry is preceded in death by both of his parents, Mike and Betty Marshall; his first wife, Sandra Ann and his second wife, Mary Margaret.
He is survived by his son, Michael (Kristi) Marshall, daughter, Shannon Mitchell; daughter, Cammie (Jimmie) Taylor; stepson, Matt (Marlene) Whitney; stepdaughter Ginny (Cliff) Burke; a sister, Linda Aikin; and 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
