

Our beloved mother, Gertrude “Trudy” Ann (Schmiegelow) Sheets (89), passed away peacefully with three of her daughters by her side on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at “We Belong Senior Home” in Plymouth, Indiana. Trudy was born in Tecumseh, Nebraska on October 9, 1936 to Josephine (Goos) and Clarence Schmiegelow. In September 1949 the family moved to Springdale, Arkansas where she attended school and graduated in 1954.
She worked for Jones Truck Line from 1954-1957. She married the love of her life Claud Sheets on April 1, 1956. They were married sixteen years and had seven children before he passed away on July 30, 1972. The family moved to Lone Jack, Missouri June 1968. She was a stay-at-home mother until January 1974 when she went to work for the IRS as a “Seasonal” employee and went permanent in 1976, retiring October 31, 2001 after 25 years of employment.
Survived by her children; Trudy (Ron) Murkin, Mary (Les) Williams, Diane (Brad) Harbison, Claud (Amy) Sheets, Clyde (Tina) Sheets, Juanita (Randy) Ames, and Leon (Julie) Sheets, 19 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren, sister Janice Wilkerson, and brother Vernon Schmiegelow. Preceded in death was her husband Claud Sheets, and mother and father Clarence and Josephine Schmiegelow.
“Though our hearts ache with this loss, we can find comfort in the legacy of love she left behind. Our Mother showed us what unconditional love looks like, and her spirit will live on in the memories we share and the lessons she taught us. Thank you, Mom for everything. We will miss you forever.”
