Gilbert Lyle Dill, age 96, of Independence, MO passed away February 4, 2020 at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg, MO. He was born September 30, 1923 in Holt, Kansas to Lyle and Agnes (Kennedy) Dill.
Gilbert grew up in Muncie, Indiana and was raised by an Aunt and Uncle. In his younger years, he helped them with their store and gas station. Later he enlisted in the United States Army and was proud to have served in WWII. He met his wife Lorraine Florence (Schick) Dill at a skating rink while in Colorado. After the War he moved to Kansas City, Missouri to be with his wife and her family. He drove a city bus for 10 years and had many stories to tell about those adventures. He then worked for Armco Steel until he retired in 1982.
Gilbert was always busy helping neighbors and friends work on cars and home repairs. He was a member of the Baptist Church; very active and served as Deacon.
His wife Lorraine passed away in 1997, he was heartbroken but was determined to keep going. He later met Emelia Jenks at the bowling alley, she loved to bowl as much as he did. They were married in 1998 and were blessed with 15 years of love and fun. He always felt blessed to have found love twice in his life.
Gilbert is survived by: his sons, Dennis Dill, of Independence, MO and Bill Jenks, of North Richland Hills, TX; his daughters, Betty (Danny) King of Blue Springs, MO, Ada (Randy) Umsted of Fort Worth, TX and Susan (Bill) Payton of Spring, TX; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; his brother, Danny (Sandy) Hunt of Manchester, TN and other loving family and friends.
Services will be Saturday, February 8, 2020. Visitation at 1:00 P.M. Funeral at 2:00 P.M. Graveside Service with Military Honors to follow the funeral at Floral Hills Funeral Home and Cemetery, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, Missouri 64133.
