Greg was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on March 27th, 1941, to Martin R. Brown and Helen G. Brown. He was an only child and sadly lost his mother when he was 4 years old. He was raised by his father who was in his late 60’s.
At an early age, Greg developed a lifelong passion for trains which was inspired by his father. His father was the private secretary to the president of the Great Northern Railroad, James J. Hill. As his secretary, Martin traveled with Mr. Hill during the construction of the railroad in mostly unexplored areas of the northwestern United States.
Greg also developed a love of airplanes and flying. Greg would often go to the local airfield and spend hours watching planes take off and land. This passion led to a 30-year career, flying 880 and 727’s at Trans World Airlines (TWA) until retiring as Captain in 1995.
After retirement Greg and Pat, his wife of over (50) years, would spend the remainder of his life traveling, spending a lot of time with family, playing golf, and making great meals together.
Greg was soft-spoken but had a quick wit and when he did speak it was usually a funny comment about the current conversation. He could find humor in most situations. Everyone who knew him can remember at least one of his funny quips.
Greg married at an early age and had 4 children. He married Pat in 1974 and gained three additional children. He leaves behind his wife of over 50 years, Patrica G. Brown, and children, Christopher Brown, Nancy (Brown) Richards, Mary Jo Brown, Marc Brown, Jay Marts, Kristi (Marts) Lamoreux, and Stacy Marts. Also included are 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Martin R. Brown, and his mother, Helen Glamos Brown.
A memorial service will be held on May 9, 2025, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. All friends and family are welcome. The family asks that donations be made to a charity or cause of their choice instead of flowers or other gifts.
