Gwendolyn Joyce DePriest, 68, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away May 19, 2015. Gwen attended school in the Kansas City Kansas Public School System. She graduated from Sumner High School in 1965. She was employed with University of Kansas Medical Center for over 40 years; she retired in July 2, 2010.
Gwen’s greatest joys in life were her family, friends, volunteer work, her little dog Jorgee, and a deep and devoted faith. She loved volunteering and most of her free time was spent doing just that. She did numerous fundraisers for cancer research, March of Dimes, The American Heart Association, and the Wilhelmina Gill food kitchen, where she volunteered for five years, every second Saturday until failing health. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend whose smile could light up a room. Her inner happiness and faith filled her with kindness and compassion for others as she bonded with everyone she met.
Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 1226 Armstrong, Kansas City, Kansas. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery South, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri.
