Born on April 8, 1934, Gwendolyn Miller was the eldest child born to William and Katherine Miller. Later, as the monarch of the family, she led with love; integrity; and compassion, while cherishing every moment spent with loved ones.
A lifelong resident of Kansas City, Missouri, Gwendolyn was united in marriage to Lonnie White in 1959 and remained married until Lonnie’s death in 2000. She was a long standing and supportive member of Community Christian Church where she was an active member of the usher board and many church programs.
As a young mother, Gwendolyn always had a desire to better herself. She pursued a career in modeling; but there were few opportunities available at the time. Gwendolyn enrolled in Manuel Vocational School and earned a cosmetology license, and later her high school diploma. She began work at Hallmark cards in 1966. Over her 35 year career with the organization, Gwendolyn held numerous positions before retiring in 2001 as a Credit Analyst.
After retirement, Gwendolyn continued to support her family and friends in various ways, especially family dinners. She was known for her delicious brisket, baked chicken, and pound cake. Gwendolyn wore many hats while sharing her support and wisdom along the way. These traits have been passed to her family with the expectation to carry her legacy forward.
Gwendolyn departed this life on September 14, 2024 surrounded by her loving family and friends in her final moments. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, William Jr., Uel, Thomas, and Archie Miller.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Ronald Moore (Edwina); granddaughter, Joy Burkes (Gerald); great-grandchildren, Parker and Preston Burkes; siblings, James Miller (Joyce), Marie Smith, Rose Beeves, Valerie McCoy, and Enita Miller; best friend for over 70 years, Enita Alexander; sister-in-laws Alice Miller and Linda Miller; and a host of nieces and nephews.
