He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Helen; son Ron Hook (Brenda) of Chilhowee, Missouri; daughter Cristy Pierson (Ernie) of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren: Jackie Hancock (Heath) of Leawood, Kansas; Josh Pierson (Molly) of Overland Park, Kansas; Kevin Hook (Charlene) of Kansas City, Missouri; and Nadine Badu (David) of Mannheim, Germany. Great-grandchildren are: Hannah Hancock, Henry Hancock, Helen Pierson, Hazel Pierson, William Pierson, Alex Hook, Alina Hook, Tamia Badu and Ashanti Badu.
Harlan was preceded in death by his mother Helen I. (Lutrell) Hook and his father Harry R. Hook.
Harlan was a corporal in the Marine Corps and served in active duty in the Korean War from 1950-52. He worked as a buyer for Western Electric Company for 32 years and was retired for 38 years (longer than he worked). In retirement he learned to play the organ with his wife and they played in nursing homes all over the city. He was one of the best dancers around and in his youth was great at roller skating.
He will be missed by his loving family.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Committal service with full military honors to follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery South.
