Harlan E. Witmer "Gene", 89, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away peacefully at Kansas City Hospice House on Monday, March 10, 2025. He was laid to rest on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Mount Moriah Cemetery.
Gene was born on October 8, 1935, to Joseph Harlan Witmer and Lillian Baker. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a tank mechanic. On January 6, 1961, he married the love of his life and best friend, Carolyn S. Gossage. They remained devoted to one another until her passing on January 1 2014.
Gene retired after a successful career as a transmission mechanic. His passion for hot rods led him to tinker with the same beloved roadster for over 60 years. A self-taught learner, Gene also taught himself how to rebuild computers and pursued many other hobbies throughout his life. He was always eager to learn something new and enjoyed keeping busy with his hands and mind. When his grandchildren were younger, he cherished playing computer games online with them, creating many memories of joy and laughter together. Gene was a dedicated member of The Church of God 7th Day from 1971 and for many years thereafter.
Gene is survived by his daughter, Denise Moore; grandchildren Bradley (Haleigh), Daniel (Stefanie), and Michelle (Hyounjun); and three great-grandchildren. Gene will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
