She was raised in Kansas City, and attended Raytown High School, where she graduated in 1957. Throughout school, Sue enjoyed playing trumpet in marching band, and was first chair in the Missouri State Band. After graduation, she attended Kansas University, where she continued playing trumpet in the marching band. Sue met the love of her life, Ralph, at church. They had an instant connection, and were inseparable and married on January 31st, 1958.
Sue was the ultimate homemaker. Her life was her family and her four children, Kimberly, Steven, Kelly, and Michael. She could be found at PTA events, specifically PTA bowling, where she was president, and held several events every year. Sue was also an active member of her church, attending weekly, and teaching Sunday School for many years.
Ralph and Sue spent a wonderful sixty-one years together. They created many memories traveling on cruises with their friends, camping across the country, attending events for the Ararat Shriners, and treating their family to a trip to Branson, Missouri every year for over twenty years.
Sue was known by her eight grandchildren as “Gree”. Her grandchildren remember her fondly, as she volunteered to watch many of them from the time they were born until they could drive. Many memories were made with them playing old maid, cooking, camping, reading, playing organ, attending every school and sporting event she was able to, and of course, shopping.
Soon after Ralph’s passing, Sue moved to Elliott Place, where she made many friends and attended events and activities. The past two years have been spent at Cedarhurst Senior Living, where she was well taken care of and enjoyed outings, daily crafts, and friendship.
