Harry Baker, 79, Kansas City, MO passed away December 19, 2011 at the Kansas City Veteran Administration Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 4737 N Cleveland, Kansas City, MO, burial in Resurrection Cemetery North. Friends may call from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the church where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Gabriel Catholic Church.
Harry was born June 8, 1932 in Atchison, KS. He was a charter member of St Gabriel Catholic Church and served as lay minister and member of the choir. Harry was a United States Navy Veteran, who served his country in Korea. He is a member of the VFW and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. Harry served is community in the following ways: He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years including serving as a past Grand Knight. He volunteered his time during the holidays to appear as Santa Claus for various organizations. He was a member and past president of North Hills Optimist Club. Harry served on the board and as past president of Synergy House. He served on the board of directors and as past vice president of Respite Care Services. He served on the board of directors and as past president of Northland Festivals, Inc. Harry was named the “Voice of Snake Saturday” and was the first and charter member of the Shamrock Club, an organization honoring those who serve the Northland Irish Celebrations and Charities. Harry was the 2011 Grand Marshall of the Snake Saturday Parade. Harry served as a Clay County Republican Central Committee member for many years. Harry was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Patricia A Baker.
He is survived by his children, Kathleen and Phillip Johnson, Timothy Baker and Rosalyn Kolich, Stephen Baker and Bobbie Kuhns, Dana and Mike Schwartz, Christopher and Donna Baker, Mary Belman, Thomas and Trishia Baker, Michael and Veruska Baker; grandchildren, Patrick & Elizabeth Johnson, Hannah Baker, Joshua Baker, Laura and Brandon Rogers, Sarah Schwartz, Ian Baker, Kathryn and Bryan Baker, Luca Baker; great granddaughter, Camille Rogers.
