
Hazel Catherine Fisher, 98, passed away on May 13, 2014 at John Knox Care Center. Hazel was born in KCMO on May 1, 1916, daughter of Louis Cameron Fisher and Jeannette Hodge Fisher. She graduated from Westport High School. She received a Bachelor’s Degree from Kansas City Teachers College in 1937 and a Masters Degree from Teachers College Columbia University in New York City in 1949. She served 37 years in Kansas City, MO public school system as an elementary teacher and principal, retiring in 1978. She moved to John Knox Village in 1995. She was an active member of Westport United Methodist Church until she joined John Knox Community Church. She was associated with the following professional organizations: Kansas City Elementary Principal Association (president), Missouri Association of Elementary Principals, Kansas City and Missouri Associations of Retired Persons, Delta Kappa Gamma Society-Alpha Chapter and PEO Chapter IV. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Cameron & Edith Fisher. She is survived by two nieces, Jacqueline Dietz (Louis) of Hot Springs, Ark., their children Ken and Pat Casper, and Sandra Schulkins of Henderson, Nev.,her daughters Kathryn and Nancy. She also leaves 3 great-great nieces and 1 great-great nephew. She also had many cousins and friends. A special thanks and love to her niece Kathryn Postpichal, Nancy and Dale Walters, Genna Neely, Kristen Audas & Phyllis Halford who visited and assisted Hazel while she was at John Knox Village Care Center. She had macular degeneration which hindered her from enjoying the many activities at the Care Center.
The family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to John Knox Village Care Center, the Village Church or charity of donor’s choice. Cremation and burial in family plot at Forest Hill Cemetery.
