

Helen attended Lincoln High School. In the early 1950’s she went to live in Los Angeles, California for five years prior to moving back to Kansas City. She loved Los Angeles so she visited regularly. Helen married Thomas I. Coleman, Jr. and from that union two daughters were born, Pat (Coleman) Wates and Cheryl Coleman.
Helen worked for the United States Postal Service as a Postal Clerk for twenty five years at various locations. She was a member of APWU, the Swope Parkway Sprouts Auxiliary, and the Saint Andrews AME Church.
Helen loved fashion and had her own classy sense of style. She also liked to travel, spend time with her children and grandchildren, and go to the Casino for fun.
Her father Henry McDaniel, her mother Lula McDaniel and her grandson Keith T. Wates preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory her two loving daughters, Cheryl Coleman and Pat (Coleman) Wates, both of Kansas City, five devoted grandchildren, Gabriel Coleman and Larry Wates, Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri, Kelly (Brent) Savage of Cookeville, Tennessee, Camilee Wates of Nashville, Tennessee, and Steven Kelow of Kansas City, Missouri, and five loving great-grandchildren, Larry Wates, III, Jada Brock, Sydney Savage, Mercedes Keyes and Simone Savage. She also leaves a special family friend, Barbara (Love) Smith.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 23, at Mount Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri, with Reverend Wallace S. Hartfield officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
