

Helen Ferris, 93, of Indep, MO passed away May 22, 2012. She was born Aug 15, 1918 in Jackson County, MO to Mark L & Mabel (Charlton) Southard. She had 2 brothers & 1 sister. She attended Hall’s Memorial High School & the KC College of Commerce. Her first job was with the new Farm Bureau, then at the Indep. Courthouse, in 1938. She married John(Bud) Srader on April 9, 1939 & had a daughter, Linda Lee. She married George Edward Ferris in 1946, & was married for 60yrs. George was the first station manager at the Truman Station Post Office. They were ballroom dancers & enjoyed many trips overseas together. Helen was a well known china painter. She was State World Organization member& state president in 1980. She exhibited many of her works at State Fairs, winning many awards along the way. She also has paintings on permanent display at the World Organization Museum in Oklahoma City, OK. She was a member of DAR, VFW Auxiliary &St. Mary’s Catholic Church as well as the HOA, IPAT, & WOCP China Painters. She is preceded in death by her husband, daughter, parents, 2 brothers, & a sister. She is survived by 3 grandchildren; Tom Colvin, Ashley Roberts(Duane), & Lindsay Martin(Eric), 7 great grandchildren; Evan & Justin Roberts, Emma & Elyse Colvin, & Lyla, Charlie,& Henry Martin; & 2 great great grandchildren; Liam & Amelia Roberts.
