Helen went on to attend the Rosenthal School of Commerce, where she completed a secretarial course in March of 1950. In 1951 she married the love of her life Ted, with whom she had two children, Karen and Kathy. Helen was a devoted wife and mother who dedicated her life to taking care of her family, serving as a beacon of unconditional love and support for her husband and children.
Her Dad nicknamed her “Punkie”, a homage to the playful spirit and abundant strength she exhibited in all facets of her life. One of the greatest joys in Helen’s life was her promotion to Grandma with the birth of her grandchildren, Jamie and Jacob. As a Grandma she was spirited and fiercely protective, and she was always willing to lend a hand when it came to causing mischief. Her joy grew upon the arrival of her great grandchildren Max and Felix, who filled her life with playful laughter and happiness.
Helen moved to Wyoming in 2016 with her husband Ted, who passed away later that year. After his passing she spent her remaining years under the loving care of her daughter Karen and son-in-law Mark. She was also cared for by Tracy Newbold and Cathy Cooley of Ranchester, Wyoming, both of whom loved her like a mother and quickly became a part of the family.
Helen loved the Lord and lived her life as an unwavering and humble testimony to her faith, consistently leading others by her loving example.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Minnie Schmidt, along with 10 of her siblings: Charles “Bud” Schmidt, Henry Schmidt, James Schmidt, Robert “Tiny” Schmidt, Mary Virginia “Doll” Young, Florence Cole, Nellie Todd, Margaret Schmidt, Elizabeth Schmidt and Anna Cunningham.
