Obituary of Homer William "Bill" Fitzpatrick
Homer William “Bill” Fitzpatrick, 83, of Gladstone, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at the Aspire Nursing Home with Hospice in Platte City, Missouri. Bill was born on December 9, 1939 to Temple Hickman Fitzpatrick and Mary Catherine Fitzpatrick in Independence, Missouri. After graduating from Central High School, he went on to work in Accounting for the Federal Reserves in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1964 Bill was drafted into the United States Army and stationed in Germany where he developed his fascination for history. Once coming back to the states, he decided to attend college and soon after enrolled in The University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC) where he completed his Master's and Bachelor’s degree in Education with a minor in History. Bill went on to teach English and History for almost 30 years with the Park Hill School District where he left saying “he truly loved what he did!” During his years of teaching, he utilized his summers to enhance his building skills and taking family road trips (short and far). With retirement he dedicated his free time to volunteering at The Airline History Museum at the Downtown Kansas City Airport where he participated in air shows, traveled with the historical Connie Airplane and met famous pilot, John Travolta. The WWI Museum at Liberty Memorial prospered from his knowledge and kindness by leading tours of the historic museum. He volunteered his services to education programs where his grandchildren attended. He loved spending time with his grandchildren whether it was going to a school function, out to a movie or just being there to see them get off the bus. You could always count on Bill to be there to lend a hand. He had a goofy sense of humor, always had a story, never met a stranger and most of all cherished his time with his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Mueller, daughter, Sabrina Jones and niece, Cindy Fitzpatrick. He is survived by his younger brother, Robert Fitzpatrick and niece, Tracy Reynolds. His children David Fitzpatrick, Melissa and Jason Dunn, Bradley Mindrup and Havalee Fitzpatrick. His grandchildren Taylor Ryan, Tristan Dunn, Madeline Stapp, Kaytlyn Dunn and Dorian Lilleston. Memorial services will be Thursday, January 26, 2023 froM 2:00 to 3:00 pm at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, Missouri.
