Homer may have been my first cousin (once removed), but I always knew him as my Uncle Homer. I have many memories of being around and with Homer as our families spent a lot of time together at family dinners/visits and going camping. I remember many wonderful times at his home where his kids and my brothers and I would play hide and go seek in his basement. One time when Homer and his family came over to our house, I was just a kid playing in the backyard with my small John Deere tractor that I could ride like a tricycle. Homer walked over to me and ask me if I was planning on doing some plowing! Homer always had a huge garden that seemed to stretch on and on in his backyard. On one camping trip at Roaring River State Park near Cassville, MO, the heat was extreme and most anglers had given up for the day. Uncle Homer continued to fish sitting on top of the tin whistle below the dam. Sweat was just pouring down his face! He was determined to catch that last trout. I will always remember Homer as a great man, a great father to his kids and a wonderful husband to his wife Vivian. We will deeply miss him and look forward to seeing him later on. 💕Homer is actually my husband Steve’s first cousin (once removed)…anyway I met my husband Steve through my job of delivering the mail and Homer and Vivian along with Rick and Kathy were all on the same route.   I remember in the early 90’s delivering mail to Homer and Vivian who would very often be on their front porch to greet me and receive their mail.  I reflect very fondly on this memory of my many memories over the past 31 years!  Homer was one the sweetest, most gentle men that we have ever had the pleasure of knowing! We didn’t see him everyday but he will still be very missed by us and we will very much miss his August Birthday parties!  RIP and love to you Homer (Until we all meet again one day!)💕

He really made me feel welcomed when I moved in across the street from him. We often would sit on his front porch and he would always have a joke to make me laugh. He shared such great stories of his great life and I could visualize his memories.  Yes, he is missed, dearly. To the family, now is the time to gather close and love each other more than ever. 

Cliff Rhoades Sr.  Has a young kid growing up in Appleton City, Mo. I would look forward to the summer week end's,when Uncle Homer would come down to Appleton City. I would get on my bike and go down to my Grand mother house were Uncle Homer would be staying while in Appleton. Wake him up and he say want to go fishing? He would drive us out on 52 highway towards Butler and stop at little country store, that is no longer their. Go in and have the the old woman cut us a LB of lunch meat, get some bread and we head out to go fishing. That's just one  of my Memory of Uncle Homer he was always fun to be a round he will be missed by me and others for sure.

We loved Homer’s sense of humor, he never passed up an opportunity to share a joke with us when we saw each other.
Having Homer and his wonderful family next door has made our time in the neighborhood very special. We will miss him and offer our caring thoughts in this time of loss .
