

Homer was born August 9, 1926 in Butler, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Blanche (Thomas) McDaniel, wife Vivian (Tillman) McDaniel, siblings Norma Sherry, Helen Gilmore, Esther Braughton, Richard McDaniel, and Rosetta Stewart, as well as grandson Nicholas Stoll.
Homer grew up working on family farm in Butler, MO. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during WWII – after basic training he was stationed in Hawaii. After the Army, much like his favorite song “I’ve Been Everywhere,” he held miscellaneous jobs. In July 1951, he started at Armco Steel, where he worked as a furnace operator for 37 years until retiring in 1988. He was a member of the United Steel Workers Union, Local 13.
Homer and Vivian Tillman were married in October 1956 in Kansas City, MO. They moved to Independence in 1960 where he remained for the remainder of his life.
He enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing, as well as gardening and listening to country music. After retirement, he enjoyed going on the Richard’s Fun-Time bus trips.
He is survived by his children Rick McDaniel, Orlando, FL; Kathy (Richard) Stoll, Independence, MO; Cynthia (David) Deutschmann, Manchester, MO; grandchildren Christopher (Rebecca) Stoll, Glenwood, IA; Drew Deutschmann, St. Louis, MO; Mark Deutschmann, Chicago, IL; Amanda Stoll, Independence, MO.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Association.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at 1:00 PM, Funeral Service at 2:00 PM at Newcomer's Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 BLUE RIDGE BLVD, KANSAS CITY, MO 64133. A Committal Service, Military Honors and Interment will follow 3:00 PM at Floral Hills Cemetery, 7000 BLUE RIDGE BLVD, KANSAS CITY, MO 64133.
