So Sorry to see this in the paper. Howard was a great man and part of an awesome family. I enjoyed being part of it with all of you at one time. My prayers are with you all at this time. So sad to hear about the passing of an institution in Independence youth sports. Having grown up with Dave and Glen and Mark, their Father was always part of my growing up. He was a not only wonderful Baseball Manager but also a trusted friend.

Coach Nichols had a huge impact on my life.  He taught me so many important lessons about how to be a man.  Such things about pushing yourself to persevere, being a good teammate, and the importance of hard work. He might yell at you, but was the first one to yell for you.  I played football for Coach for three years and it meant the world to me. Through him I learned to believe in myself.  After many years of teaching and coaching, I only hope that I have passed on some of Coach's life lessons to my students and athletes.  I saw him these last few years and was able to tell him what he meant to me and I'm so glad I did. Thanks also to Mary Ann and the kids for sharing him with us.  God Bless.

Coach, you don't know the impact you had on my life. I played for you for 1 season and in that season you taught me to play for ME but I just wanted to make a play for YOU. That 1 season has lasted me a lifetime. I hope that I did a good enough job in coaching to have passed some of your lessons on to some of my players. If I did just that much then I feel I will have done you justice. 
I loved playing for you and I respected you more than I could ever express in words. 
May God be with your loved ones and comfort them in the knowledge that you are with your Lord and Savior. 
I hope I get to see you in heaven because I know you'll be there pacing the sidelines in coaching shorts, T-Shirt and your flat top haircut coaching student angels to do it right.
