Hugh was born Jan. 1, 1942, in Kansas City to Bill and Evelyn (Harrigan) Haggerty. He served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Princeton and worked for 28 years as a buyer for Prolerized Steel Corp., and then for 10 years as HBC&GM manager for Hen House Market. Hugh was a proud Irish-Catholic and devoted husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend who, by example, taught us how to live a life of integrity, kindness, compassion and faith. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed annual fishing trips with his sons, doting on his only daughter and rough-housing with his grandsons. Hugh loved cookouts with family and cherished his recent trips to Ireland with family and friends. He also enjoyed Tuesdays at The Daily Limit with his childhood friends, who were more like brothers than friends.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Children's Mercy Hospital - Oncology Department. His family wishes to thank family, friends, and Mary Newman Schowengerdt of Continua Hospice for their support, care, kindness and respect.
