A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 3:30PM, with a Visitation beginning at 2:00PM, at the McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Rd, Kansas City, MO 64119.
Irey was born in Kansas City to Veronica Perez and Samuel Settgast on January 5, 2010. She attended school at Winnwood Elementary in Kansas City where she had just graduated from 5th grade.
Irey didn't have the opportunity to get married or have kids because she could not walk or talk, but she made many changes. Irey was the smallest baby at 5 months old to have a vagus nerve stimulator to help stop seizures at that time in 2010, and now they place them in children much younger. She was also the first child to have breastmilk with the ketogenic diet at Children's Mercy, now breastmilk is used all the time, GO IREY!!!
Irey is preceded in death by her brother, Gavin Perez Settgast, father, Samuel Settgast, great-grandmother, Maria Gonzales, great-grandfather, Orlend McKern, uncle, Ron Sherman, and aunt, Sandra Wiseman.
Irey is survived by brothers, Odyn Hicks, Linkin Hicks, and Eli Settgast-Miller, mother, Veronica Perez, step-father, Kyle Hicks, grandfathers, Mickey Settgast and Tom Reyes, grandmother, Mona Crouch, grandparents, Bryan & Kelly Coffelt, great-grandmother, Barbara Sherman Griffin, aunts, Samantha Torres and Angelic Torres and many cousins.
The family of Irey wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr.Scott Colliton and Dr. Sarah Wright, Colette Lyles and the Beacon team at Children's Mercy also the pharmacy staff, nurse care manager Beckah Cottle with PCN, Nurse Megan and SW Ashley and others with KC Hospice, Irey's therapists and teachers at Winnwood, our DME companies, WIC, and one of the most important, Maxim Healthcare for giving us Irey's other mother/her nurse of 7 years Latoya Robertson.
Following the funeral service, Irey’s family would like to invite friends and guests to join them at a gathering to celebrate the reuniting of Gavin and Irey. It will be held at 6:00PM at the NKC Parks and Recreation Center located at 1201 Clark Ferguson Drive, North Kansas City, MO 64116. It will be a potluck type of dinner, so if you would like to bring a favorite side or desert you can. If not, please just come enjoy this party for Irey and Gavin.
