Jack Crabb was born on August 2, 1933 in Galena, MO to Walter and Lenna (Ellis) Crabb. He developed a strong work ethic, at a very early age, through farming and helping with the family’s Cross Roads general store. He was the first member of his family to attend college. Through the University of Missouri, he received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Agriculture. Jack then married his high school sweetheart, Luana Hunt and had a daughter, Jacqueline “Jackie” Crabb.
In 1975 he married Peggy Cope with whom they welcomed another daughter, Heather Crabb. They enjoyed spending time at the lake, boating, traveling, and other activities with the Abou Ben Adhem Shriners. When their marriage ended, Jack took the responsibility of raising Heather on his own. He very much enjoyed being involved with her schooling, various extra-curricular activities, sports (especially cheerleading), and BOTAR.
In his early professional life, Jack held various sales jobs with multiple companies. However, the majority of his career was spent with Sweetheart Cup. During his 37 years with Sweetheart, his great success with sales and management was not easily measured. He won multiple awards and mentored/managed so many salesmen throughout his career. He also kept close ties with his salesmen and colleagues over the years following his retirement.
Jack was very social and extremely outgoing. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed playing golf with his buddies and fishing at his place in Cape Fair, MO. He was a governor of the American Royal, member of the Diplomats social group in Kansas City, traveled internationally with the Kansas City Ski Club, and celebrated his birthday every year with fellow Leo’s.
In retirement, he became a Master Gardener, worked with the Springfield Botanical Center Friends of the Garden, Greater Ozarks Hosta Society (GOHS), Springfield Art Museum and served on the board of Friends of Springfield Art Museum (FOSAM). He also devoted so much of his time to his family. Although he faced many health issues during his final years, he spent his last 6 months helping his 6-year old grandson, Luke, with virtual education during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jack’s contributions to society were numerous, but, most of all, it was the hearts he touched during his journey on this earth. Not only was Jack a Father to Jackie and Heather, but he also took others under his wing. One of these people was Mark Lewis, whom a considered to be an “adopted” son. Jack was a hardworking, good natured, energetic, fun, and extremely honest man.
He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Lenna Crabb, his sister Norma Lee Crabb, and sister in law Carol. Jack will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Jackie (Bill) James, Heather (Justin Styers) Crabb, and his precious grandchildren, Olivia, Jackson and Luke. Jack will also be forever remembered by brothers Eddie and Bill (Jane) Crabb as well as several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 12:00- 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at the Manlove-Stumpff Funeral Home, 214 N Commerce St, Crane Missouri. The family will hold a graveside service at Crane Community Cemetery with a brief reception to follow.
