Jack H. Fellows

September 3, 1940May 29, 2021

Jackie (Jack) Hale Fellows of Lee’s Summit, Missouri passed away on Saturday May 29, 2021, at the age of 80.

Jack was born in Kansas City, Missouri on September 3, 1940 to Cullen and Mima (Sterling) Fellows. His family later moved to Bolivar, Missouri. After graduating from Bolivar High School in 1958, Jack briefly attended college at Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State University) in Springfield, Missouri. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1959 and spent time at air force bases in Cape Cod (“Texas Towers”), San Antonio and the Richards Gebaur AFB in Grandview. After experiencing a medical condition while in the Air Force, Jack was honorably discharged in 1962. He then began working at the General Motors Leeds automotive assembly plant in Kansas City, Missouri where he was employed for several years and became a UAW union member. Jack was active in Nativity of Mary Church in Independence, Missouri for many years and was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council #6794. Jack was known as a ‘fix-it’ man and seemed to be the first person family and friends called when something broke, or when they just needed help. He was very generous with his time, talent and treasures and enjoyed helping others. Jack never met a garage sale that he didn’t like. He was always on the hunt for a bargain and accumulated a large fleet of used washing machines, lawn mowers and spare parts over the years. Jack loved his family and was a great friend to many. He also loved sports, including the Chiefs, Royals, Missouri Tigers, fishing and the World Wrestling Federation. As his health declined, Jack moved to the Veteran’s Home in Warrensburg, Missouri where he received outstanding care for the past three and a half years. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his brother James (Jim) Fellows; his brother-in-law Bob Wheelbarger and two sons-in-law, John Alexander and Dave Rimmer. Jack is survived by his wife of almost 19 years, Judy Fisher Fellows; his sister, Donna Wheelbarger; the mother of his children, Marilyn Mulloy Fellows; his children: Debbie Alexander Brackenbury (Bill), John Fellows (Coretta), Patty Wagner (Tom), David Fellows (Melissa) and Bill Fellows (Hilary); his step-children: Zack Shubkagel Rovella (Cody) and Emily Kodner (Kenny); his grandchildren: Kurt Wagner, Ryan Wagner, Michael Alexander, Katie Alexander Graver, Jason Alexander, Mallory Fellows, Nathan Alexander, Jackson Fellows, John Alexander, James Fellows, Abby Fellows, Madeleine Fellows, Nolan Fellows and Max Fellows; his step-grandchildren: Eli Kodner and Nora Kodner; and his great grandchildren: Owen Wagner, Ezra Alexander and Ellee Wagner.

A visitation for Jack will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Newcomer’s Noland Road Chapel Funeral Home at 509 S. Noland Rd., Independence, Missouri 64050. A celebration of life will follow immediately thereafter at 12:00 p.m. Jack’s ashes will be laid to rest with military honors at Fort Leavenworth in Leavenworth, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations to the Veteran’s Assistance League to enhance the lives of the veterans who live at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg (1300 Veterans Road, Warrensburg, Missouri 64093).

Dear Fellows family,

I have fond memories of Mr. Fellows, having grown up with Bill(y) at Nativity. I do recall Mr. Fellows being a Jack of all trades (no pun intended) as he was a fixture at Nativity when we were growing up.

What a legacy he leaves in the wonderful children he raised! May you all find comfort in your memories and May you find peace knowing that your husband/dad/grandpa has finished his race and finished it honorably.

With sincere sympathy,
Diana Latlip

Although he wasn't known by this, I always saw Jack as the " Gentle Giant" in the neighborhood. He would always speak to you, and on occasions, shoot the basketball with you ( but it was rare). He raised 5 wonderful kids that I've had the pleasure of knowing. Know that he is at peace now, watching over each of you.
