LIFE'S REFLECTIONS
SUNRISE:
Mr. Jacob (Jake) Wesley Hunter Sr. was born October 12, 1947 in Des Moines, Iowa to the late Arthur Roderick Hunter Sr. and Edith Boldridge Hunter. He was the youngest of their two children.
Later in life after completing his high school education, Jake enlisted into the U.S. Army where he served in Da Nang, Vietnam for two tours of duty, as a Teletype Communications Specialist. In April 1968, Army Specialist Four, Jacob Wesley Hunter was selected as Soldier of the Month. He was the first African-American to receive such an award in his battalion, Da Nang Signal Battalion, U.S. Army Strategic Communications Command in Vietnam.
After his military duty he began working for Northwestern Bell as a Lineman. Later, he was promoted to Product Manager of Network Services. He then went on to become Vice President of Network Services at Northwestern Bell. Jake then took an interest in Telecommunications Consulting and moved to California to pursue his career. He advanced his consulting career to the oil industry where he began traveling abroad to Africa and Europe for several years to facilitate contracts. After retiring, he enjoyed leisure activities such as; playing golf with his friends and family, fishing with his buddies and barbecuing.
SUNSET:
On Tuesday March 27, 2018 Jake went home to be with the Lord. He leaves to cherish his memory: his life partner, Cornelia (Connie) Patterson, of Lee's Summit, Missouri. Also, his son Rommel Hunter of Des Moines, Iowa, his special daughter Tonia Bennett of Suffolk, Virginia, his daughter Shana Hunter, his son Jacob Hunter Jr. and his son Matthew Hunter of Omaha, Nebraska. His siblings; William Sharp of Des Moines Iowa, Phyllis Hall (Henry) of Los Angeles California, Ronald Sharp (Mary) of Avondale, Arizona and Larry Sharp (Lizz) of Des Monies, Iowa.
Preceding him in death were: parents Arthur Rodrick Hunter, Sr. and Edith Boldridge Hunter
Sharp, brother Arthur Hunter, Jr. of Des Moines Iowa, and sister Mary Powell (Sam) of Lawton, Oklahoma. Jake leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will also miss him dearly.
