Jacque was the only child of Jed S. and Velma B. Giles, who preceded her in death. Her two half older brothers, Jed K. Giles, Sr,. and J. Alvin Giles, passed away before her. Having no children of her own, she leaves only cousins from her mother’s side and nieces and nephews from her father’s side.
Born a preemie at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, MO, her start in life was a difficult one. At the age of 10, her family moved to Phoenix, AZ, where Jacque grew up. After high school, she enrolled in a junior college in Flagstaff, AZ, and graduated with an Associates of Arts degree. She held employment in the Denver, CO, as well as Phoenix areas.
Jacque was a true independent free-spirit. She was raised Christian but explored and embraced different religions throughout her life. In her last years, she found solace in meditation and Buddhism.
Jacque was all about The Beatles. Jacque loved travel. When in the U.K., she explored all the places of The Beatles members lived and played. She was all about “Star Trek” - not Star Wars, as she would tell people. She was all about the color purple.
Jacque was all about cats. She also had a passion for bats. Her passion for and love for all animals gave rise to her vegetarian lifestyle that lasted through her whole adult life. She also had a profound interest in Egyptology. She talked about traveling to Egypt, but she never made it.
In 1990, Jacque and her mother moved back to the Kansas City area. She lived and worked in various locations in both Kansas and Missouri. Jacque made friends easily. Her kind nature earned her many good and close friends wherever she lived.
In her mid-60’s, Jacque was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. In October of 2020, she entered Seasons Memory Care in Kansas City, MO. Her family wishes to express many thanks for the kind and good quality of care she received there. In her last days, One Community became her hospice care provider. They were kind and compassionate to her needs throughout.
A gravesite service is planned for May 9, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Moriah, 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO 64131. Any donations are suggested in Jacque Giles’ name to either Alzheimer’s Association, Prairie Village Heart of America Chapter, or to the K.C. Pet Project.
This author, her niece, will miss her fiercely. Rest in Peace, dear sweet Jacque.
