August 5, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents James Gorden and Anna Grace Bennett, along
with his sisters Shirley and Karen, and brother David.
Jim was born February 2, 1936 in March, Missouri. He, along with 3 siblings, eventually made their
home in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from East High School in 1954 and began working with his dad in the roofing and siding business. During that same time, he joined the Army National Guard, in the 110th Engineer Combat Battalion and served as a medical specialist for 6 years.
Jim married and from that union had 3 sons, Sam, Dan (Tammy) and Nat and raised them in Blue
Springs.
Jim began working for the Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City in 1960 as a lead craftsman/electrician. It was there he met Rosilee, the love of his life.
Jim and Rosilee, along with and her three daughters, Rachel (Ray), Jennifer Renee, and Rhonda (Creg),
married in 1979 and they became the Bennett Bunch. The two made their home and created lasting
memories in Blue Springs for 43 years. Quotes that filled his life:
• Every morning he would greet his love with the line, “how’s my pretty girl?”
• He was known as “a merciless Canasta player, holder of all black 3’s”
• When family came over, he’d exclaim, “Who’s in my house?”
• Known by many names, Jimbo, Jimmy-Do, Grandpa and G.G. Pa, he was loved by so many.
• “Huh, huh, huh!”
Jim loved to travel and together with Rosilee, the two drove across the United States, flew to Europe,
and sailed the ocean blue.
In retirement, when Jim showed up in his tan “Dickies” coveralls and Red Wing boots, you knew you
were about to be blessed with his incredible woodworking expertise, including everything from wooden
spoons, built in bookshelves, wardrobes and a murphy’s bed. Anything wooden and beautiful, he could
do. When you provided him with a photo and a few weeks, he would create stunning and magnificent
items. Family and friends alike have enjoyed his skills. He has left beautiful pieces of himself around the
country, from coast to coast.
His large family produced twelve (12) grandchildren: Adam, Caleb (Nyha), Joshua, Zachery, Gracelyn,
Hanna (Kyle), BreAnna, Nina, John, Felicia, Dalton, and Olivia, as well as a handful of great grandchildren.
