

James E. Byrnes, 77, of Lee's Summit, Mo., passed away Dec. 14, 2011, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at St. Margaret's of Scotland Parish in Lee's Summit followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in KCMO. Jim was born March 31, 1934, in Kansas City. He attended St. Stephen's School and Parish. He graduated in 1951 from De La Salle Military Academy. He served his country in the USMC, stationed at El Torro, Calif., as a Communications Corporal and sharpshooter. He was proud to be the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 385 of Raytown. As a member of St. Bernadette's Parish in Kansas City, he served as Eucharistic lay minister. He donated his time and energy to Kathleen Gier of Cooperative Social Services. He retired from AlliedSignal (Honeywell) after 38 years of service as a draftsman/designer. After moving to Lee's Summit, he was member of St. Margaret of Scotland Parish in Lee's Summit. He is preceded in death by parents, Martin and Harry Etta Byrnes and a brother, Richard Lee Byrnes. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jane (Roth) Byrnes; son, James Martin Byrnes and his wife Dianne; daughters, Brenda Swadley and her husband Ritchie and Michelle Dyche and her husband Jim; six grandchildren, Sarah Dunlap and her husband Phillip, Shawn Swadley, Mary Parson and her husband Shawn, Erinn Byrnes, Caitlin Swadley and Derek Swadley and three great grandchildren.
