

James A. Coxe, 86, known to everyone as Jim, passed away on New Year’s Day 2017 at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada. The youngest of nine children of Howard Coxe and Hattie Lott, he was born and lived in Kansas City, Missouri most of his life but moved to Las Vegas 20+ years ago with his wife, Dorothy Ann Naughton, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his son Thomas Coxe of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and daughter Kimberly Coxe of Portland, Oregon, as well as three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. His other son, Jeffrey Coxe, preceded him in death.
Jim will be remembered for his gentle nature and sense of humor, his willingness to always help people and his skills at woodworking. Building things was his passion and he continued to work on various home improvement projects for himself and friends up until his last few months. He also remained a longtime fan of the KC Chiefs! Jim was a machinist for several envelope companies in Kansas City before he retired to Las Vegas. He also was in the U.S. Air Force in the 1950s, originally based in St. Paul, Minnesota, and served in the Korean War.
Services will be held Friday, January 20, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home located at 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with services starting at 11:00 am.
