

James Frederick Currall, Jr. was born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 20, 1929. His parents were Catherine (nee Zykan) and James F. Currall, Sr.
Jim grew up in St. Louis county, in the town of Wellston. He attended Wellston High School and married his high school sweetheart, Connie (nee Rempe). A popular member of his high school community, Jim was president of his student class, involved in school plays, and was on both the basketball and football teams. During his senior year, Wellston won the All-St. Louis County trophy in football; the team was strengthened by numerous returning WWII veterans.
After high school, and after working briefly in an automobile assembly plant, Jim graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, MO. Subsequent to serving in the Army around the end of the Korean War, Jim and Connie moved to Kansas City where they lived for the next 60+ years and where they raised their son, Steven C. Currall.
Jim earned a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Missouri, Columbia. He had a successful career as a clinical social worker and was deeply committed to bringing healing to many broken lives through his work in community mental health centers (Western Missouri Community Mental Health Center), the Child Psychiatry Unit at the University of Kansas Medical Center, and hospice centers for the elderly. He also worked in the federally-funded National Health Service Corps where he led the program for placing physicians to in rural settings in the midwestern region comprised of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska. He received numerous awards and citations during his career.
Jim was an avid sportsman and loved his dogs, particularly his labrador retrievers. He also loved the tranquility of fly fishing at Bennett Springs State Park in the Ozarks. He was a long-time member of Christ the King Catholic Church.
Jim had three younger brothers: David, Richard and Gary. Jim was 14 years older than David, 16 years older than Richard and 18 years older than Gary. Jim is survived by his son, Steven C. Currall and his wife Cheyenne, who live in Boston, and by Gary and his wife Linda, who live in Dayton, OH.
Visitation will be held at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131, on July 13, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service with Military Honors at the same location from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. A Committal Service will take place at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131, on July 14, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm.
