One of his life verses was 2 Timothy 4:7. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” This verse is so appropriate for Jim to choose for his celebration of life. He never gave up, he continued to fight to the very end and never gave up on his faith in God- even when times were tough. His love for Christ and his family kept him going.
Jim honorably served in the United States Marine Corps from January 29, 1954 - January 28, 1962.
He married June Stillwell on August 30, 1968, and had two daughter's Christi and Kim.
In February 1982, Jim founded and became President of Deibel Construction a commercial construction company located in Overland Park, KS. Jim prided himself on Deibel Construction for never having to bid work- because his clients knew the quality of his work and that he stood behind his projects. Jim ‘retired’ from his professional career in construction in November 2010.
Jim loved spending time with his family, tinkering with cars, mopeds, model airplanes, or providing guidance to others with their own construction or home improvement projects.
Jim and June are members of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Leawood, KS.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years June M (Stillwell) Deibel of Overland Park, KS. He also leaves behind three daughters- Marita Rhea (Cynthia) of Paço de Arcos, Portugal- Christi (Victor) Kurtz of Peculiar, MO- Kim (Andy) Traub of Spring Hill, KS, and 6 grandchildren, Kaitlyn Kurtz, Lauren Kurtz, Kyla Traub, Gabriel Traub, Hayden Kurtz, and Christian Kurtz. “We love you Jim/Dad/Papa/Grandpa and will miss you dearly, but we know you are in a much better place with no more pain or suffering.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Irene Deibel, brother Jerry Deibel, sister Mary Virginia "Winnie" Thompson, and one grandchild Angel Kasmira Marie Kurtz.
Jim loved his denim jeans, so the family is asking each of you to please wear jeans or denim to any activities associated with celebrating Jim’s life.
