Born on July 10, 1956, Jim was a beacon of warmth, wit, and kindness throughout his almost 69 years, touching countless lives with his knowledge, humor, and kind-hearted nature.
Jim spent his early career in the pharmaceutical industry and later as a facility and commissioning engineer. He made many lifelong friends during his career and those from his childhood and high school years.
He was never one to stop learning, and he found joy in his continuous intellectual exploration. As a lifelong learner, Jim preferred reading textbooks and user guides over novels and was a successful horticulturist.
His greatest accomplishments included his marriage, his children, and his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John & Evelyn Garnett; brother Larry Garnett; brother-in-law Frank; sisters-in-law Chris Ann and Vicki; nephews Rex Thomas, Jeremy, and Kelly.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Ellen Garnett, whom he married in 1974; their cherished children, Ryan Garnett, Jennifer Hauser (Tyler); his brother, Terry Garnett (Alice); sister-in-law, Cathie Countryman and brother-in-law, Lee Watkins. He was the proud grandfather of Maddox, Mia, James Sidna, Emerson, and Madeline. Also surviving are nieces and nephews: Carmen, Lynn, Chad, Tony, Johny, Heather, John Anthony, and Danny.
Jim's legacy is his love for family, a sentiment he nurtured and prioritized above all else. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his profound wisdom, and his unwavering love for his family.
A visitation for Jim was held Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, Kansas City, MO, followed by a Celebration of Life.
