James R. Hicks, 83, Leawood, KS passed away on April 7, 2020 at his residence being cared for by his wife, three dedicated neighbors and Phoenix Hospice. James was born on April 18, 1937 to Thelma M. Moody and James M. Hicks in Kansas City, KS. He graduated from Raytown High School, then enlisted in the Air Force in 1958 to 1962. James worked for Bankers Life Insurance. He later worked for Katy Railroad as a Conductor and Union Representative until he retired. He met Donna DeVeney at KU School of Nursing in 1967 and married her on June 30, 1987. James was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife and many family members.
James and Donna would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Sara Hicks for the 34 years of exceptional care she provided and the “Lovely Ladies of Leawood”. To Guy, Jan and Allen for their assistance with James' care.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 17 at 10:30am followed by funeral service at 11:00am at Church of the Resurrection (Wesley Chapel), 13720 Roe Avenue, Leawood, KS. If unable to attend, service will be livestreamed at cor.org/memorialsonline. Interment on Monday, April 19 at 10:00am at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.
