James Edward Mayer

James Edward was the oldest of three children born to Margaret Jane (nee Bonstell) and Jesse Taylor Mayer. He graduated from Rosedale High School and had service in the Civilian Conservation Corp. During WWII he served honorably as a B-29 pilot in the South Pacific. He returned to family life and had a long and distinguished career in the insurance industry.

He was married to Edde Frances Mayer for 55 years which ended with her passing in 1995. Four adult children survive: daughters Terry Beth Lewerenz, Leawood, KS, Terry Beth Barnes, Kansas City, MO; sons James Dp Mayer, Kansas City, MO, Dr. William Bickell (Beverly), Tulsa, OK. Grandchildren include Steven Dp Lewerenz (Nina), Spencer Mayer Lewerenz, Elizabeth Barnes Bober (Michael), James Barnes (Jessica), Julian Bickell (Jenna), Edi Schunk (Tyson), Alexandra Bickell, Elliott Bickell (Amy); great grandchildren include Lena and Finn Lewerenz, Simone and Dahlia Bober, Henry Barnes, Christian, Gabrielle and Maxwell Schunk, and Juliette Bickell. Our family’s deepest respect, love, and appreciation to Dad’s dear companion Mildred Kepler.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, March 24, 2014 at Cure’ of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Rd., Leawood, KS 66206. Visitation/Rosary will be from 9-10 a.m. Monday at the church. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
