

James H. McGillin, 88, of Kansas City, North died August 24, 2011 at North Kansas City Hospital. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Monday, August 29th at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 4737 N. Cleveland. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-5 PM Sunday at the McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Rd, Kansas City, Mo. A rosary will be prayed at 4:00 PM. Contributions are suggested to Catholic Charities and Habitat for Humanity.
James was born November 14, 1922 in Iowa County, IA to John Felix and Anna McGillin. They later moved to Cosgrove, IA where he attended the consolidated school. In early 1942 James tried to enlist in the US Marines. James was not accepted, but was drafted later that year and inducted into the US Army July 9, 1943. After basic training in Camp Roberts, CA, James shipped out of Ft. Meade, MD to Casablanca. His WWII combat service was in North Africa and Italy. Upon his departure from the Army, James attended Iowa State and graduated from the University of Iowa. James worked for the Veterans’ Admin., FDIC and Social Security Admin. James married Betty White in 1953 and lived in Denver, CO for several years before moving to Kansas City, MO. They became active members of St. Gabriel Parish. He was involved in the St. Vincent de Paul society, and a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion. James was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Betty and his parents, John Felix and Anna McGillin. He was also preceded by his brother Thomas and sister Magdalene (Madeline).
Survivors include son Joseph and Rebecca McGillin of Broomfield, CO; son Thomas McGillin, Olathe, KS; daughter Lisa and Mark Ibarra, Lenexa, KS; and daughter Susan and James McIntosh, East Amherst, NY; grandchildren Colin and Megan McGillin, Broomfield, CO.
