James H. Melcher, 65, of Lee’s Summit passed away in the home peacefully December 13, 2017.
He is survived by his loving wife Kathy Hays Melcher. Jim was a man known for his long commitments. He was married to Kathy for 32 years. When he wasn’t with Kathy he would have his loyal dog Pepper by his side. He is an army veteran having served in the U. S. Army, 82nd Airborne and 89th U.S Army Reserves where he obtained the rank of Sergeant. For the past 30 years he worked for the U.S. Postal Service retiring in 2014. He enjoyed delving into local political history and closely followed the Royals and the Chiefs.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Ruth Melcher of Kansas City, Missouri. Besides his wife, he also leaves his brothers Mike (Jan) Melcher, Bill (Donna) Melcher, Paul Melcher and sister Marty (Jim) Mayor. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m, Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Mount Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, KCMO. Visitors might want to be sure and stay for the military ceremony promptly at 4:30 p.m. to conclude the visitation. There will be a private burial for the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Wayside Waifs, Kansas City, MO.
