September 7, 1948 – October 26, 2026
James L. “Jim” Winnie, Sr., passed away on October 26, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Jim proudly served as a Scout leader for both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for several years, sharing his knowledge, guidance, and love of the outdoors with young people. Having earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout himself, he wore that honor proudly throughout his life.
Jim also served his country in the United States Army, including combat in service during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he built a long and dedicated career as an electrician, retiring from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 124. He recently celebrated 50 years as a journeyman electrician, a milestone reflecting his hard work, dedication, and pride in his trade.
Above all, Jim was a devoted family man. His love for his family was truly unmatched, especially the special bond he shared with his grandson, Brandon. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for them. Jim had a big heart, was always willing to help others, and was known for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor.
Jim fought a courageous battle with cancer, never losing his hope, determination, or desire to keep going. Even until the very end, his fighting spirit and sense of humor remained strong.
Jim was preceded in death by the love of his life-wife, Merle; his parents, Eugene and Mildred; and his sister, Harriett.
He is survived by his daughter-his princess, Amanda, and her husband-his son, John; his grandson-his best friend, Brandon; his son, Jimmy; two sisters; six brothers; and several loving nieces and nephews and many friends.
After 50 years of bringing light into the world as an electrician, Jim’s own light may have gone out, but the love, laughter, and memories he leaves behind will shine forever.
Rest in peace, Jim. Your work here is done, but your legacy lives on.
