
Janet Mae Blakey, 75, KC KS, entered into rest Dec. 8, 2016. Visitation 6-8PM Thurs., Dec. 15, at Floral Hills with Rosary at 6PM. Mass 10AM Friday, at Our Lady and Saint Rose, KCK. Burial at Floral Hills. Janet Mae Blakey was born on November 30, 1941, in Kansas City, Missouri. She departed this life peacefully on December 8, 2016, among people who loved her. Mimi, as she was affectionately known by family, was the 10th child born to Jack Andrew Blakey and Virgia Marie Gladney-Blakey. Mimi was born into a strong Catholic faith. She attended St. Monica School and St. Joseph Jr. High. She graduated from Lillis High School in May of 1959. She was a member of Our Lady/St. Rose Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kansas. Mimi met and married Hobert Shelton of South Bend, Indiana, at a young age. To this union one daughter was born, Virgia Marie Shelton. This union was dissolved, and later she married Sam Faulk Jr., of Kansas City, Missouri. This union was also dissolved. Mimi was very crafty! She worked in Shirley's Flower Shop and became very proficient in flower arrangements and making paper flowers. You could always count on her to make handmade flowers for all of the family graves on Memorial Day. She also excelled at sewing, crocheting and embroidery. Artwork was her true passion. Mimi worked and retired from Cramer Industries, where she was a sewing machine operator. She formed seat cushions and covers for office chairs. She was very proud to have worked on a chair that now sits in The White House. Mimi was also a Union Stewart for Cramer's, a job she took very seriously. Because of her Stewardship, she was able to attend Central Missouri State University, whereby she accumulated college hours toward a degree. Janet was preceded in death by both her parents and five sisters, Maxine, Jamesetta, Jacqulin, Joyce and Jean. She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Virgia Marie Shelton, of Kansas City, Missouri; Three sisters, Josephine McClellan of Paso Robles, CA., Janella Caperton of Colorado Springs, CO., and Jillann Johnson of Kansas City, MO.; Two brothers, John Blakey of Belton, MO., and Joseph Blakey (Margaret) of Kansas City, KS.; Special friends, Mrs. Freddie Thomas of Kansas City, KS., and Mr. Ernest Roberts also of Kansas City, KS.; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. The family would also like to acknowledge all of the nurses, doctors, hospice workers and caretakers at Beautiful Savior Nursing Home and Serenity Care Hospice for making Janet's last months of life a very nurturing, loving and happy experience for her.
