Janice Marlene Ash, 82, of Kansas City, Missouri died from lung cancer on June 28, 2015, with her family by her side. Funeral services are 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 1st at the McGilley Antioch Chapel; burial will follow in White Chapel Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the McGilley Antioch Chapel. Contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org.
She was born to the late Adele and Walter Delfs, December 9, 1932, in Kansas City, Missouri. Janice graduated from Paseo High School in 1951. While attending Paseo High School she met her late husband, Harold Ash, class of 1949. They were married on August 10, 1951.
Janice and Harold owned Harold’s Restaurant for 45 years in Clay County. In addition to helping her husband run the restaurant, Janice worked for Southwestern Bell, Bendix, and was a bookkeeper for Greenhaven Sod and Landscaping for 20 years.
One of her biggest joys in life was her grandchildren and watching them play sports and dance. She enjoyed planning her high school reunions, was an avid golfer, bowler, and a Royals and Chiefs fan.
Janice was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. She was past president of the Jay Cee Ette North Kansas City Wives Club. She was secretary of the Republican Women’s Club for six years.
Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Steven Harold Ash and wife, Denice of Gladstone, MO; Mark Duane Ash of Gladstone, MO; former daughter-in-law, Connie Solomon of Gladstone, MO; grandchildren, Dana Thomsen (Jack) of Santa Cruz, CA; Ryan Ash (Mindy) of Kansas City, MO; Alisa Ash Welch (Matthew) of Lee’s Summit, MO; Julie Hovorka of Pleasant Valley, MO; Erica Niehaus (Justin) of Leawood, KS; and Bryant Ash of Kansas City, MO; great-grandchildren, Alec Thomsen, Kade Hovorka, and Dawson and Nora Welch; brother Robert Delfs of Lake Oswego, OR; sister Lynda Crow (Al) of Surprise, AZ; and her life long friends, Carolyn Crump and Pat Williams of Kansas City, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adele and Walter Delfs; her husband, Harold Ash; and her daughter, Denise Lynn Ash.
