Janice “Aunt Sue” Blatt
October 25, 1944 to March 13, 2023
Janice Sue Blatt was born Janice Sue Webb on October 25, 1944, in Kansas City, Missouri to Dorothy (Francis) and Earl Webb. She was a 1962 graduate of Paseo High School in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1966, she and her best friend, Nila Sanders, moved to Phoenix, Arizona before moving on to San Francisco, California in the Haight-Ashbury District.
Janice spent time in Arizona, California, Illinois, and Kansas before returning home to Kansas City in 1982. She remained there until moving to Lone Jack, Missouri for a year then settling in Concordia, Missouri in 2007. She moved to Topeka, Kansas in 2020 and remained there until her passing.
Over the years, Janice worked as a secretary for NBC, a donation collector for Disabled American Veterans, and as a Foster Grandparent for the Concordia School District. Her time as a Foster Grandparent was her hands down favorite. She loved all of the connections she made and all of the new children who adopted her as their “Aunt Sue”.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Herb Coffman, sister Delores Webb, sister Wanda Crayton, brother-in-law Norman Crayton, and niece Dana Sue Crayton.
She is survived by her niece Lorri (Larry) Olson, nephew Mark (Sharon) Crayton; great-nieces and nephews Jessica Morrow, Nicole (Barnabas) Southall, Amanda Crayton, Justin Crayton, Kyle Crayton Kock, Josh (Megan) Kock, Kayla (Caleb) Thilking, and Eryn Kock; great-great nieces and nephews Coletin Rumrill, Lukas Morrow, Logan Cissell, Adalyn Cissell, Boden King, Alayna Coates, Hudson Thilking, Sage Rohde, and Nash Thilking. Over the years, she also adopted many other children as her honorary nieces and nephews who will forever be family.
Visitation will be held at McGilley & Sheil Funeral Home (11924 E 47th St, Kansas City, Missouri) on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 5:00 pm with a Celebration of Life to follow at 6:15 pm. All are welcome to attend with light refreshments to follow.
