

Jeanette M. Barry, 98, passed April 2, 2018. Jean was born May 29, 1919 on a farm near Wamego, KS, the daughter of Gregory and Martina (Straub) Farrell. She attended the Wamego School district (1-12), Mt. St. Scholastica College (Atchison, KS.) then graduated from nurses training at the St. Joseph Hospital (St. Joseph, MO.). The year was 1941. World War II had begun late that year and before the end of 1942 the Barry family had begun, with the birth of Victor Jr. Mrs. Barry was now a registered nurse and a single mom waiting for Victor Sr. to return from the Pacific. After more than three years Michael came along, Tom showed in 48 and Patricia in 51. Victor Sr. sold the family business and moved to Madison WI, E. Lansing MI. and Norfolk VA, adding two more children to the family while still in the Navy. Jean was always beside her husband working as a health professional at night, a mom in the day and the anchor of the family no matter the port of call. Jean and Victor moved the Barry family to Raytown MO. in 1970 where Jean was readily accepted in the professional nursing community and the family was now in a position enjoy the extended family in Wamego and Kansas City region. Retiring from Research Hospital after more than fifteen years. Jean became a frequent volunteer with the V.A. Women's Auxiliary. Jean was also a member of the Friendly Club, the Knights of Columbus ladies auxiliary Council #4962,and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. The Nurses Quarter Club of St. Joseph Hospital and a 25 year member of St. Theresa the Little Flower Ladies Auxiliary. Jean was preceded in death by 3 sons, Ronald F. Barry, Victor J. Barry, Jr. and John F. Barry. Jean is survived by 3 children, Michael G. Barry (Maria), Tom. E. Barry (Janet) and Patricia A. Murray (Christopher Robin); a sister, Macrina Schecher of Everest, KS.; 9 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, including more than 90 nieces and nephews of the Farrell, Hund, Umcheid, Kneib and Summers family to name a few. Visitation will be Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 6-8 pm with rosary beginning at 7:30 pm at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 6, 2018 at 11 am at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery, Wamego KS.
