She was born on December 6th, 1952, the 2nd child of the union between Oliver S. Anderson and June E. Johnson.
Jeanette is survived by her brother Jim (Danielle) Anderson; her daughter Holly (Aaron) Kaden; and her two favorite people in the world, granddaughters Remy and McKinley.
Family and friends will be welcomed on Thursday, March 10th, 2022 at 5:00 to rejoice her 69 years. This celebration reception will be held at Mt. Moriah Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home located at 10507 Holmes Road in Kansas City, Missouri, 64131.
Following family tradition, Jeanette began working at the family business at the age of 12 “checking files.” She officially moved into the Secretary/Treasurer role at Anderson Survey Company after the passing of her father. After a half century of service and two years with a cancer diagnosis, she retired in 2019 to become Head Chauffeur and Chief Gofer for her granddaughters. Throughout her life and up to the time of her passing, she was extremely proud of the lasting family legacy and the indelible work of Anderson Survey Company on the infrastructure, entertainment venues and landmarks of Kansas City.
Jeanette loved to travel and was always up for fun. Early vacations consisted of Vegas road trips, Vegas red-eyes, cruises, island hopping, sightseeing on the coasts or just spending the weekend at the Lake of the Ozarks with her family. Her vacations eventually morphed into spending most weekends at a softball field, basketball court or at home babysitting. She did not miss one basketball game, choir concert, softball game, track meet, wrestling meet or bowling tournament as an official member of the Remy entourage.
“Grammy” always had a funny story to tell. Always. Her sense of humor would shine through these stories and she would happily tell them repeatedly over a good cup of coffee. She was always upbeat and found humor in everything – even her last 24 hours in hospice. Grammy also had a love affair with the penny slots and could often be found in front of a Buffalo, Devil Dog, or Whales slot machine. Her best gambling buddy has full faith that she is pulling the handle of a Cookie Man or Boom machine right this moment!
Her daughter, Holly, was at every appointment, scan, diagnosis, chemo infusion, and radiation treatment over the last five years. They would make the most of every moment together and laughed through every hard thing. Fittingly, they were together the moment Grammy transitioned into the arms of previously departed loved ones. What a glorious and smoke-filled reunion they are all having now.
From Mom to Momma Denz to Grammy, her favorite role was the last. From taking McKinley on Target shopping sprees to chatting with Remy about life, she couldn’t have been more proud of her granddaughters. Due to the handiwork of her son-in-law, turning two closets into a full working kitchen and laundry room, she was able to live with and interact with those granddaughters daily. That blessing was not lost on her.
Her generosity was absolutely unmatched. She would spring for steak and lobster dinners for no special occasion, and would hand out cash frequently. During the height of the pandemic, she anonymously donated $100 each to the custodial staff of 16 at Staley High School as a thank you for keeping the kids safe. She bought Remy a car and over-filled McKinley’s room with toys. She donated monthly to 6 non-profit organizations and bought every t-shirt, magazine, PTA membership, and wish under the sun. She gave surprises of World Series tickets, trips, and home improvement projects. Gifts were her love language and she loved hard.
Grammy will always be remembered for her compassion, generosity, love, friendship and sense of humor. Her motto of “get the girls what they want” is something that will be honored frequently. We will forever raise a cup of coffee, have a virtual cigarette, tell stories, pull the handle and give in her name. We hope you do, too.
