

Jessie Gamino Garcia, 84, died on October 15, 2010, surrounded by her family after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 21 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine, 907 Avenida Cesar Chavez, Kansas City, Missouri. Visitation was on Wednesday, October 20, 5 to 8 pm at McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 W. Linwood Blvd. where a Rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to the Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine.
Jessie was born on July 1, 1926 in Kansas City, Kansas to Santiago and Margarita Gamino. She was the second of seven children that were raised in Armourdale. She married Roy Garcia and together they raised their children in midtown Kansas City, Missouri. She was also a longtime resident of northeast KC.
Jessie worked for Wilson Packing as a meat cutter for 27 years and was the first president of the American Legion Women's Aux. Post 609. She had a large personality that could fill up a room and a very giving heart. Jessie enjoyed helping others, spending time with her large extended family, and traditional Mexican music and food.
She was preceded in death by her son, Raymond; her sisters, Victoria Estrada, Lupe Thomas, Soccoro Mora, and Margaret Espinoza; as well as her brother, Daniel Gamino. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Roy Garcia of Independence, MO; daughter, Teresa (Robert) Paredes, Independence, MO; son, Larry Garcia and companion Christina Reyes of Kansas City North; sisters, Tina Segura and Julia Figueroa, both of Kansas City, KS. Jessie had eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, as well as her adopted family, the Jaramillos. The family wishes to express its sincere thanks to the staff at Golden Living Center for their care of Jessie over the last 3 years.
