Jesus (Jesse) R. Hernandez, 92, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2013. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 28th, 10:00 a.m., at Church of the Ascension, 9510 West 127th, Overland Park, KS, with burial following in Resurrection North Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, December 27th, at McGilley State Line Chapel, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., where the Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. The family suggest contributions to the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, 1813 NW Willow Brook, Blue Springs, MO 64015-2949.
Jesse was born April 1, 1921 in Independence, Kansas. He was married for 71 years to his wife Fermina. He was a WWII Veteran from 1942 to 1946 and served in the 83rd Infantry of the U.S. Army, landing on Normandy in the second wave on Omaha Beach. He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for reconnaissance behind enemy lines. He returned home to graduate from UMKC undergraduate and Law Degree. Jesse was an independent claims adjuster and in 1960 established the Hernandez Claim Service and retired in 1986. Jesse joined the First Degree in March, 1958 and the Fourth Degree in April, 1959. He has been an Honorary Life Member for over 22 years and was a current member of the 3rd and 4th Degree when he died. He was a member of Council 3414 in Parkville, MO, and a member of Assembly 2315.
Jesse was preceded in death by his mother, Maria Ramirez, father, Jesus Hernandez, and daughter, Kathleen. He is survived by his wife, Fermina; his children: children; Alfonso Hernandez and wife Beverly; Mary Bires and husband Rick; Mario Hernandez and wife Diane; Veronica Hernandez; Rebecca Mick; Phillip Hernandez and wife Megan; and Cecilia Hernandez. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; and his sister, Patricia Amayo and her husband, Joseph.
