Jo Ann Mucke-Tillotson was the firstborn child of Katherine and Roy E. Becklean. Her greatest and most enduring legacy was the family that grew to include three daughters, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Jody was preceded in death by her first husband, Vernon Mucke; and her second husband, Jonathan “Jack” Tillotson II. She is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Yuille (Jay deceased); Sondra Estes (David); and Pharra Madura (Larry).
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Travis Yuille (Chassadee); Cathryn Ardila (Santiago); Maggie Ternes (Christopher); Joseph Estes (Haley); Vernon Estes (Margaret); Michael Estes; Taylor Milova (Dasha); and Landery Gosserand (Anna).
Long before the beautifully appointed homes, magnificent gardens, opera evenings, and travels around the world, Jody was a gifted athlete and spirited performer. Those who knew her only in her later years might have been surprised to learn that she had once been a star basketball player, scoring an extraordinary 37 points in a single game. She also adored dancing and performing—and she loved to sing, often and enthusiastically.
Jody attended Christian College in Columbia, Missouri, where she met Vern. As she built her family and home, her remarkable creativity became evident in nearly everything she touched. She was especially talented in decoupage and interior decorating, creating homes that were both beautiful and impeccably designed. She had a discerning eye, an appreciation for fine antiques, and an instinctive understanding of how to make her surroundings feel special.
Her love of flowers began in her youth, when she had a greenhouse, and remained with her throughout her life. Under Jody’s care, flowers flourished, and her gardens were gloriously beautiful—a reflection of her patience, creativity, and appreciation for beauty.
Education was always one of Jody’s deepest priorities. Quietly and without expectation of recognition, she made it possible for several young people beyond her immediate family to attend college, paying their tuition and housing in full. Her generosity opened doors and changed the course of lives.
In her later years, Jody continued to learn and challenge herself. She educated herself about the financial markets and became a skilled and successful investor. She was a proud member of the Lyric Opera Circle, where she delighted in the friendships and festivities while enthusiastically supporting its philanthropic work. She and Jack generously opened their home for numerous fundraising events, welcoming others in support of causes they valued.
Across every season of her life, Jody brought curiosity, creativity, elegance, and generosity to the world around her. She created beauty, valued learning, supported her community, and gave freely whenever she saw an opportunity to make someone else’s life better. Through the people she encouraged, the students whose futures she made possible, the organizations she supported, and the beauty she cultivated, Jody’s influence will continue to be felt for generations.
